Melting Your Brain in Second Life

There is magic in second life and you can find it from Tuna Oddfellow. In a world where anyone can pull a rabbit from a hat or fly up to the skies, this real life magician has found a way to make something very magical. His shows are mind bending illusions at it’s best in Second Life! He won the NBC “Avatar’s Got Talent” and was announced on an episode of “America’s Got Talent”.

I’ve seen many of his shows and still shocked at how good he can use textures, music and effects to make something so amazing. If you get to see his show be sure to pull back and move your camera around to see all the fantastic visuals. Best to be there before the show so you can be amazed how the world around you changes.

I was given a hat for this show I am attending which changes colors, textures and effects during the show. All of this is controlled by Tuna Oddfellow. His regular shows are 11am SLT on Sundays, and 7pm SLT on Mondays. Visit the Oddfellow Studios.

Virtual Live Band Rocks Second Life

Virtual Live Band plays in Second Life

I’ve always liked the live performances in Second Life ever since I first found them. Usually It’s one singer or a couple of people playing live from one place. I recently found a unique live event with a live band. They consist of 5 members from 3 countries and 5 different locations. One plays from Germany and another from UK with the rest playing from the U.S. They use a program to sync up called ninjam and then send the stream over to SL.

The majority of their songs are original but they do covers also. You can check out their website and find out more about them. Be sure to check out the days they will be playing so you can check them out!. Sign up for their group, “VLB group members”, in SL and find out instantly when they will be playing. You shouldn’t miss this band because they are good and really rock SL!

Christmas 2007 in Second Life

Spending time in Second Life for Christmas

It’s that time of year where we decorate our places for holidays. We also get in the spirit with new clothes for our avatar. This year I did some searches for Christmas places to go in SL. The interesting thing is the regular search for places didn’t give me the results I expected. Most of the places at the top were not about Christmas and even some had mature content. I even made sure it didn’t include mature content in the search and it still gave me them. Then I used the new search under the all tab and searched for Christmas stuff again. I was happy to see exactly the places I was looking for.

Merry Christmas from all of us at VTOR and have a great virtual holiday experience wherever you may go!

Here are some of the interesting places I found:
Using the new search function I found these:
  • Spring City – Really good place with plenty of Christmas items
  • Fortimus – Plenty of trees to get for your place
  • Buyeo – Another place with great Christmas stuff
Here are some Christmas live events for you to enjoy on Xmas eve day and Christmas day:
  • [Experience Island at 118, 22, 27 (slurl)] – religious experience event in Second life with video of a real life special event. All day (Dec 24th)
  • Kona dAlliez – Johnny99 Gumshoe plays live at 1:00pm. (Dec 24th)
  • Kona dAlliez – Andy Glasgow plays a rock show live 2:00pm. (Dec 24th)
  • [Edloe at 128, 114, 68 (slurl)] – Cylindrian Rutabaga sings at 5:00pm with great vocals. (Dec 24th)
  • Tryggvason – Scarlett LaRoux performs some holiday songs at 7:00pm. (Dec 24th)
  • Marimon – A Christmas party in SL at 8:00pm. (Dec 25th)

Second Life Hockey League Keeps Going

Playing hockey in Second Life on a hockey rink

Second life residents are always surprising me with fun and interesting things to do in this virtual world. I recently found out about a hockey scripted event inside SL. These people have started a North American and a European league. The leagues are separated for better game times for everyone. At the end of a season they have a special event involving both leagues. The league was created in 2006 by Jack Belvedere and you can find more information from their website here.

I was interested in this as a viewer and not thinking about playing in a league. I attended a few games last month and found them very entertaining to watch. The players have equipment to wear and each team have their own uniforms. If you visit their rink you can also pick up some free equipment. I tried them on and it really makes your avatar into a hockey player. The skates are scripted so you feel like your skating on ice. There is not much to do without a puck which has to be dropped during a game though. Besides the players there are coaches on the side line and a referee watching for any penalties. Yes a player can be penalized for many things. The penalty for flying is one of those unique to SL. If a player is penalized they must go to the penalty box.

Hockey team playing in Second Life

The game is played almost like a real game. Each game has 3 periods lasting 5 minutes each. The clock starts when the referee releases the puck. Once the puck is released the players in the face off fight over control of the puck. The goals are scripted to help out with the scoring accurately. There are still issues with lag and crashing which sometimes will cause two pucks out at the same time. They have rules on what happens when players crash out in the middle of a game especially when it’s the goalie. What I find interesting is that the SLCN TV is actually broadcasting this event on their website with a commentator throughout the game.

Season 4 starts Nov 4 with games being played all day. So if you are interested in watching a game or play in the league teleport to the rink at Jericho Hill at 187, 124 (slurl). You can donate linden money to them or buy some shirts to support the league if you like it. If you have a related business you can even buy advertising just like the real life games.

Get your green out in Second Life for St. Patrick’s Day!

Wearing a huge St. Patrick's hat in Second LifeEnjoying events in Second Life on St. Patty's day

Today is St. Patrick’s day and it will be celebrated in Second Life as well as first life. I already went shopping and got a big green hat to wear from Winyah Forest Shoppe [SLURL]. A shirt with “It’s a green thing, you wouldn’t understand” written on it from Sanctuary Shops & Lofts. I am all ready to party with my avatar! There are other places who are selling stuff for this day but most of the wearable stuff are for women of course. If I find any more I’ll add on to this post.

The next thing I have to do is find the fun events so I can have some fun! There are some parties with live singing and dj’s playing irish music. I might attend some of these if I have a chance. If you do a search there are plenty to choose from so I picked some that I will be attending or the ones that look interesting. I am planning on listening and checking out the blarney stone party mostly.

  • 2 day party events in The Blarney Stone Irish Bar [SLURL] starting at 11am SLT. This event has a website at Dublin Virtually Live and can be listened to by pointing your music player to: 66.34.54.162:8000
  • Rave Party in The Munitions at 12pm SLT.
  • Another party in Love Harbor [SLURL] at 12pm SLT.
  • Another party in Sensual Excitement at 1pm SLT.
  • Irish bands in Bubblegum Music Factory at 4pm SLT.

If I find any other good places I will add more later today!
