Second Life Pizza Gets Some Real Life Delivery

Pizza ordered in Second Life

I actually love pizza but don’t order it often over the phone or on the internet. I have my local pizza places I love and then the big franchise places for a quick bite. There has been times while I’m working at home and start craving pizza. Now I have 3 choices to order it from home. I could call my local store to order some pizza or order it online from some famous franchises. Soon I will have an option to order it in second life.

If I’m playing a game or building something in Second Life then it might be easier to rez a gadget and order a pizza. I don’t see me ordering like this all the time but maybe at the beginning just to try it out. I would have a better chance of ordering take out in a virtual world if there was a lot to choose from. I hope there will be more places who will try this idea like I mentioned in another post about movietickets.com. Most of the big businesses who come into SL use it for advertising primarily. I have noticed some who are trying new ideas.

The chance for me to order a pizza with my lindens money is a BIG plus for me! Especially the fact that I would have to wait a week just to get my money out of SL. I wonder how this pizza business is going to deal with the lindens. Maybe big businesses will have an easier time getting money out? Will they see it as a risk they are willing to take if they can’t get their money? Selling real stuff from second life will add some interesting problems especially hot food. This is a great idea but as a business it seems very risky especially reading about other people having problems with money in SL. [ furnation money problems ] [ dark life robbed ]

Real Life Pizza place advertising in SL

After reading about this I started to search around in Second Life and I found some interesting places. One place actually sells virtual pizzas. I bought a pepperoni and cheese pizza on a platter. Great for those virtual parties for my avatar! I can click on the pizza and I’ll receive an animated pizza slice. Sweet! Also I found a real pizza place advertising inside SL. They are from Switzerland and their sim looks really nice. Not sure how much business they get from SL.

Second Life Newbie? Read a book!

Archebooks Publishing eBook store in Second Life

Here is one example where a company in Second Life got me interested in their real life work. I was searching around for stuff to do and found an event about a new book. This new book is “A beginner’s guide to Second Life” and you can read chapter 8 in second life. They also have a sample of the first chapter and chapter 8 on their website at archebooks.com. Don’t know why I wasn’t able to read the first chapter in Second life.

When you go to their SL eBook store you will see some other books on display that you can sample too. Just buy them for free and wear it. You will find that a book comes up as a HUD display. Click on the pages to turn to the next page. I didn’t find it easy to read because of the slow rezzing and being a bit blurry. It’s still an interesting concept and it got me to their page where I found some books I might want to buy. The samples on the webpage are in pdf form and a lot easier to read.

Archebooks using a Book Hud to promote books in Second Life

This was only a post about the store in Second Life and the promotion of their website. This isn’t a review of the book because I haven’t bought it and only read the sample chapters. From what I read it looks very helpful for any newbies to this virtual world. You can also buy this book and others from some well known book stores online.

My First Second Life T-Shirt

I recently found a tutorial on how to make a t-shirt with your own graphic. Robin wood has a couple of very good tutorials on how to make stuff in second life at his web page. There are other links off that page that might be of interest to anyone who wants to do more graphic work also. Today was the first day I tried to use the “Finished T-Shirt Template” tutorial in the Texturing section. I made my first Tee Shirt in Second Life showing my websiteI’ve never tried making clothes until now. I found it very easy to understand and made my t-shirt in a couple of minutes. I basically took a screenshot of my web page in a browser. Then scaled it to fit on the shirt. If you haven’t worked in a graphic program you might take longer to understand everything. If you always wanted to know how to make clothes this is a really good way of learning. This T-Shirt I made was very fast and maybe later I’ll make a better one.

Mainstream Music Industry entering second life

Ever since I joined Second life I have been an explorer looking for adventures. I sometimes get surprised how much fun one can have in this virtual world without putting much money into it. I have no property or business but I can still make enough money to buy clothes. I usually make money by playing Slingo and Tringo. Also by attending scriptschool on fridays I can get some money too. I have played games, listened to live music and attended races. This time I found a place which is bringing the big music companies into second life. I’m not a big fan of the big music industry. I’d rather support the musicians and singers who are not signed. But when something big happens I have to check it out.

Universal Motown Records Group in Second Life

Something is happening on June 25th which is this weekend! The Universal Motown Records Group are bringing in two artists for a meet and great for their fans. I first found out about it from 3pointd.com and started reading up on it more. I also travelled to the place at St. Martin region and was impressed with the setup. The first artist on June 25th will be Chamillionaire which I haven’t heard of but I’m probably just too old now. I listened to the tracks they had set up and wasn’t my type of music I’d listen to but I know their are a lot of fans out there. The next day on June 26th the band, Hinder, will be in second life also. Their music is more my type of style so I was entertained when I was listening to their music.

Here is the press release if you would like to read it for yourself. They are allowing 100 people into this event by using a trivia question. The first 100 correct answers will get their free tickets to the event. The “box office” opens on Friday morning at 9am SLT. This is actually an interesting idea because the fans should be the ones who attend the event. There will be a video of the event after for anyone who couldn’t attend. But 100 avatars may slow down the sim so I hope things will work out for them. Search for “soundscape” in the events tab for more info on this event.
