Solar eclipse event pictures

Ok this is old stuff but I just wanted to write about it and show some pictures because it was such a fun time. On March 29, 2006 there was a solar eclipse in Turkey at 2am Second Life Time. I am usually up at this time finishing up work for the day and try to get to bed by 3am. I remembered from Lestat’s post that there was going to be a showing of the eclipse in second life. Had to check it out so I found the place where it would be showing and headed on down there. I found a seat in the auditorium and started the video stream up.

At the beginning it was just some scientists explaining about the eclipse and how to watch it in different ways. There were many other people there watching. All of us were chatting about it and when the eclipse actually happened it was really an exciting thing to see. Reading what others had to say about it was very interesting way of watching it. It made it seem like we were all together watching this happen instead of being in front of a computer alone. Here are some pictures I took of this event for all to see! Many other people were taking pictures of it as well.

Live Entertainment in Second Life

Live musicians in Second Life

I have been attending many live entertainment since I started in this world. Such a unique experience when you can attend a live performance from some great musicians and singers! When I was looking through the events one day I saw a live musician playing so I had to check it out. The setting was a lake with floaters for people to lay down on in front of the stage. Don’t remember the name of the place but I do remember the great music. Now these events are all free and they only ask for a tip if possible. I was so entertained that I gave a nice tip after the show. I usually like listening to the regular music that gets played through a sim so once I found this I tried to attend as many performances I can.

Some performances get posted in the events but some will not be there. Recently the live music category was added to the events find window so it’s easier to find these events now. There is also a group called, “Live Music Enthusiasts”, which will have announcements before a live event will happen. You can be teleported to the area by asking in the group also. Each performance can be in different areas and sometimes can be at a grand opening like I am attending right now. I’ll post about that after the event finishes in another post.

If you get a chance to attend these events you really should! I am sure you will enjoy listening and experiencing something live with others around the world. I don’t get out much cause of work so this is a nice way of having fun while I work or just relaxing. It will never be the same thing as a first life concert but I can’t get out every single day to a concert. In second life there is always a live performance somewhere at some time each day. Usually in the evening, SL time, you will find the best events to attend.

I also found out that some of these performers are available for bookings also. So if you want some crowds this might be a good way of getting people to your place. Don’t know how much a booking would be, though.

Second Life

Second Life PictureSecond Life

These past months I have been playing games in a virtual world called Second Life. It’s not exactly a game because there is no goal. It’s mostly a platform where users can create anything they want with the tools provided. I signed up at the beginning of this year and have been satisfied with it. I am on their free account which allows you to log in as much as you want, use anything in the game except for owning land. If you want land then you must pay for their premium account which is $9.95 per month.

It’s hard to explain how much you can do inside the game unless you try it. Here’s an article from business week about second life. It will explain a lot to the new users. Some of the games I have played inside second life are, Slingo, Tringo, Blackjack, Slot machines, War and Quintzee. All these games have been created from regular users. There are plenty of other games that I haven’t played yet and more are being created all the time. You can also buy cars, planes, clothes, furniture and gadgets for your avatar inside the virtual world. The one thing that makes this world different than others is you can buy Lindens(game money) with real money and you can sell Lindens for real money. This brings in some business minded people. Some ways of making money in the game is creating objects that others would buy, making scripts for games or vehicles, buying lindens at a low price and selling them for a high price, buying land to place games on and making money from them when people play and escorts or stripping. Yes this is a mature platform and can be used for anything that is legal. No one under 18 can sign up and use second life unless they use the teen grid which is not connected to the mature grid at all. In  the mature grid there are PG places also so not all of it is adult.

I’ve been using second life for entertainment. There are some singers and musicians who play live in certain places. These aren’t wannabe singers. They are very professional and give a great entertainment value. I also play the games for fun too. I haven’t found a business plan for myself in the game just yet but still thinking all the time. I use the name, JohnnyRS Hoggard, in the game. Join up and have fun for free or pay for some nice privileges.
